Original question- To diagnose deficiencies in organizations, it is important to understand why this phenomenon exists. Serra, Pinto, Guerrazzi, and Ferreira stated that even successful companies can go into decline and identified a need for additional research on organizational decline and its antecedents. They stated that deficiencies should not be studied as the opposite of success. Briefly explain this view. Do you agree with their position? Why or why not?

Hello class,

Serra, pinto, Guerrazzi, and Ferreira (2017, p. 3) in Whetten (1980), Torres, Serra, Ferreira, and Menezes (2011) pointed out when it comes to organizational decline there should be the need to investigate the decline in organizations, to them this is very important because it will help them to know what they need to do in order to stay business for a very long time. Organizations who are successful must have failed first, as such, understanding why companies go into decline, how this decline could have been avoided, the role of organizational in the face of external transformations, losses in terms of performance, how the erosion of specific resources and the capacity of companies occurs, which decision making processes lead companies into decline, why company resources lose their value and many others.

Yes I do agree with their position. Arruda (2015, p. 1) argued that failure is not the opposite to success but its part of it. She said failure is not a step backward; it’s an excellent stepping stone to success. Businesses never learn to move out of their comfort zone if they don’t overcome our fear of failure. The most progressive companies deliberately seek employees with track records reflecting both failure and success. Organizations that survive failure have gained irreplaceable knowledge and the unstoppable perseverance born from overcoming hardship.

Daft (2021, p. 360) indicated that nice handling of organizational decline is needed if the organization is to avoid dissolution. Leaders of that organization(s) have the duty to identify the signs of decline, acknowledge them, implement necessary action, and reverse course.

Dr. Gonzalez and Classmates,

Even a successful organization can slip into failure of organizational decline, depending on various reasons, but the caveat is how we utilize the data from the failure. Why did the organization deteriorate or decline? The reflection is key and very similar to a Resource based view. Serra et al. (2017) Organizational decline is also an important phenomenon that challenges practitioners, and understanding its characteristics and contexts may help increase company longevity. Through this research, leaders can determine that having a dynamic understanding of deficiencies is an effective strategy in organization management.

Resource based view within an organization is pulled from the view that an organization’s performance is determined by the resources available to it. Evaluating an organization’s resources acts as a driver to how they can improve or change their strategy. The Business Essay (2021) cited that an organization’s resources point to its capabilities, and these capabilities identify the sustainability of the organization’s resources and capabilities; formulating a strategy that utilizes the firm’s resources. Similarly, Davis and DeWitt (2021) cited resource based theory as a focus on how productive resources can be used to secure economic rents and attributes of resources that can help yield these persistent profits. Identifying resources as well as strengths and deficits can improve organizational productivity and is a practical strategy in an organizational environment.

Hello Class,

According to Serra, Pinto, Guerrazzi, and Ferreira, (2017) organizational decline is connected to a prolonged fall in an organization’s performance and resource base. According to Daft, (2021), organizational decline is a condition when a significant, absolute drop in an organization’s resource base happens over time. It is frequently linked to organizational atrophy (older, ineffective, and overly bureaucratized organizations), vulnerability (a strategic inability of an organization to thrive in its environment), and environmental decline or competition (organizations decline in producing energy and resources available to support the organization).

Although I am aware that failure in all spheres of life-work, school, and organizations must be measured, I concur that it shouldn’t be researched as the antithesis of success since it isn’t. First, several internal and external to the organization’s elements might contribute to shortcomings. Second, although failures are frequently the consequence of a confluence of variables that are difficult to modify, successes are frequently the result of adjustments in policy or procedures.

Diane Ravitch (2001)argues that inadequacies shouldn’t be viewed as the antithesis of success. According to her, this perspective is built on the myth that all students can succeed if they work hard enough. She contends that this is not only incorrect but also hurtful to the scholars who are unable to satisfy the high expectations placed on them.

The fundamental thrust of Ravitch’s (2001) argument is that by emphasizing shortcomings, individual student distinctions are ignored. She emphasizes how some pupils do not have the same possibilities as others since they come from underprivileged families. Despite their best efforts, these kids are unlikely to be successful. She also contends that emphasizing shortcomings obscures the accomplishments of pupils who can overcome obstacles and realize their objectives. The same applies to organizations, in my opinion. The success of an organization can quickly be diminished if attention is paid to its shortcomings. Each company must be given the chance to recognize its defects since it is these weaknesses that will ultimately lead them to success.
