In this clip from a favorite show of mine, Ted Lasso, we see a stereotype of a middle-aged white man being resistant to therapy. The therapist in the scene seems to have made the assumption that white men don’t talk about their feelings, and is seemingly correct, as Ted deflects and makes rude accusations that seem to validate how uncomfortable he feels. In the end, he storms off and doesn’t finish his session with the therapist, claiming that therapy is “bullsh*t”.
The stereotype of older white men having aversions to therapy is one that has some truth in the world, but like any stereotype, doesn’t reflect the individual nature of people. In the end, the stereotype that the therapist is making could be seen as causing tension, and creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ted leaves because he feels attacked, and with better communication or validation of his fears, instead of judgment, it could have been a more open conversation.

In a advertisement I saw for Liberty Mutual Insurance they enforce a couple stereotypes our society have about actors and young people. The commercial starts with him explaining he is an actor, then he began to read his lines which he struggled with. My perception from that part of the commercial is that he is not that smart because he is an aspiring actor and throughout my life actors have not been portrayed as smart. The other stereotype the commercial plays on was that of young people being unprofessional and more engaged with their phones. At one point in the commercial his phone rings while he is working and he stops what he is doing to answer his phone.

I recently just purchased a dresser set for my son from Homesquare. I normally read the reviews before I buy anything but, this time I didn’t. I would give them a two star rating. Because they customer service was horrible, and the product was not what I expected. The dresser was for an infant and was only 23 inches tall. Then, they wouldn’t pay for the shipping and it took them forever to refund my money back to my card after they received their merchandise.
A product the has exceeded my expectations is Honda motorcycles. My knowledge being with Hondas offroad line of motorcycles. From their sloggan ” You’ll meet the nicest people on a Honda”, to the companies advertising of “Fit and finish quality of the dirtbikes”. I have owned many different Honda motorcycles over the past three decades and have always been impressed the qulity of their products.
I would say for the overview answer, one of my recent experiences of making an online purchase was through BestBuy, I was in the market to buy a tablet/iPad and I was doing researcher on what works best for me. I looked at the iPad, I was reading the reviews first to get a good idea on what other customers experience. They had almost a 5 start review all positive comments, and what drew me more was the promotion they had if you were a student, they will give you a good discount at check out. I love discounts, that’s what draws my attention along with the reviews from other customers.
After my purchases, the iPad did meet my expectations, and because I was very satisfy I also gave a great positive review with a 5 start rating, and the reason I gave the 5 start is because its just what I was looking for, I got a great deal and I’m satisfy with my purchase.
