The task
write an analytical report on business (policy) decision cases
including an evaluation of the decision/policy
support analysis and evaluation using models developed in class
Your report should include the following components (for suggested
structure, please see description):

Background report
market conditions
a discussion on any social issue significant enough that it may impact
on management – e.g. environmental drivers
history of the decision maker
Data introduction, including stylized facts.
An overall conclusion for the evaluation

Things to consider (incomplete and not in any order) for a
macroeconomic policy case:
Expenditure on GDP (private consumption, government expenditure,
gross fixed investment, exports, imports) over selected years
Growth of GDP (by industry)
Economic growth and business cycle analysis; output gap
Savings, income, household debt, private sector debt, general
government debt
RBA’s monetary policy stance including interest rates and inflation
Include analysis and forecasts from the 2018 Federal budget. How is
fiscal policy being used to support economic growth?
Labor market: participation rate; unemployment rate
Trade agreements and partner economic performances (impact on

Sustainability and carbon pollution reduction schemes
Demographic factors at play
Contributions to economic growth from various sectors of the
Regulation and other barriers limiting growth opportunities.
Labor market reforms / policies / skills migration and visa reforms;
wages growth; underemployment
Current government policy agendas (e.g. innovation)
Education Expenditure and investment programs
Housing market conditions
International / political economic events impacting on the domestic
economy, including exchange rates, etc.

Your evaluation should be based on your own economic analysis
There is no right or wrong answer for this evaluation. The idea here is
that you can take the data and the relevant analysis of various
variables to make a case regarding the business/policy decision.
